Sports Betting Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow

Introduction:

Sports betting is a from of gambling, which has a long and colorful history in many countries of the world. It’s not exaggerated to say that every person have gambled at-least once in their life! Gambling is more a human instincts to me as its a kind of risk taking exercise human beings loves to do. perhaps thats the reason that human race has survived for so long and at the top of food chain. in this article we have tried to summarize the long history of sports betting. it is very important to note that  the author of the article does not support or endorse any form of gambling including sports betting.

Past:

• Betting as such and sports betting are as old as history of mankind. the famous Hindu epic of Mahabharata describes the historical  between Kauravas and Pandavas, which subsequently resulted in Great war of Mahabharata.
• Ancient egyptian, mayan and other civilizations has  documented evidences of betting and gambling.
• Betting on cork fights, dog fights and subsequently horse racing were early form of betting on sports.
• World famous greek gladiator fights and bull fighting of spain has betting involved to some extent.
• History of gambling and betting on various sports in US is as old vas inception of USA.
• The arrival of gambling and sport betting from Europe with colonization of US is noted in many history books. It was not only considered form of making money but also entertainment and leisure.
• Early 19th century has seen most of the horse race betting, which became very popular in 1930s.
• In late 1800 betting on professional baseball strated and the system of odd developed, however 1920s considered as golden era of sports betting.
• Great depression has played major role in lots of people turing towards some from of gambling to ear their livelihood.
• However in late 1940s most of the states in US has banned any form of betting and gambling.
• Rise and growth of many criminal organization and gangs across US has also contributed played pivotal role in the development of dark side of betting. Chicago has become centre of all gang activities related to Betting.
• In 1974 US has seen a major shift as US government has lifted 10% sports tax on sports wagers.
• In 1976, Bookie Frank Rosenthal developed a system which became basis of future sports book.
• Present:
• Fortunately the current regularized status of sports betting has come along way and still it attracts millions of people worldwide to this exciting, challenging form of earning quick cash.
• Delaware, Nevada and Oregon state has allowed any kind of betting legally.
• it is estimated that sports betting is 63 billion dollar industry in US and almost 100 billion world wide., ith Nevada itself contributing 2 billion dollars.
• Americans bets on a sporting event at least once a year and 15% of US population bets on sports regulerly.
• with the birth of internet and its rapid growth has contributed super fast development of sports betting, the scene has now quickly shifted with lots of online casinos and sports books available to bet.
• Betting of NBA, NFl has become very common thanks to smart softwares and online sports lines.
• Present era of sports gambling has also seen lots of grey technics such as identity theft, credit card fraud and black market money in the business.
• The major development in recent time is systems or statical softwares to help you to win most of your bets. this sports betting system has sparked interest among those people who dont have any experience in online betting. with the help of betting system they can confidently bet and win!
• Many online casinos offers free training and resources for people to learn techniques of sports betting.

Future:

• Like any other trade or business sports betting is surely going to stay for the very long time.
• There are many new methods and system coming in near future which claims to revolutionize the way betting is done now
• Recently a new market of peer to peer betting has emerged and betting exchanges will be common in near future.
• The success story of http://betfair.com has inspired dozens of entrepreneurial online betting exchanges.
• Technological progress will take betting online to a new level in next few years.
• there will lots of development in terms of bet prediction softwares and systems.
• John Morrison haas given so far the best sports betting system which claim to win 97% of betts.
• Exponential growth in online sports betting will also see new tougher and more restrictive betting regulations all over the world.
• Match fixing will be more common, and modern technologies will be used by both the parties to have edge over one another.

Conclusion:

• Sports betting is here to stay, near future will massive expansion in this already 100 billion dollar industry. It is not exaggerated to say with the smart systems and global economy’s growth more money will come to market and many people will make living from sports betting. However this will also have negative impact on the society in terms of socio-ecnomic problems of gambling. However the future look bright of this ancient tradition.

As a librarian – my pat answer would be go to the library and look it up – however as a person I know that often doesn’t happen – so my next suggestion is – google it.
Look for articles from know sources (sports illustrated, espn, MLB, etc)

Also – check out your local library’s website. Many of them have links to online articles from 1000′s of magazines. You can search them online, find full text copies of the articles and use the information in your report. Most of the time all you need is your library card (you do have a library card, right?) ;o) In addition, I would be willing to bet that your school library has access to the same kind of information database. Of course you have to go the library to get the info.
